Doctoral programs in Public Health and Social Science (DPPHSS)

Aims and objectives

The main goal of the proposed project is to design and develop a PhD program in Public Health and Social Sciences in Armenia, aiming at advancing knowledge, research and analytical skills in public health in general, as well as strongly interconnected with social sciences.

The proposed project is logical extension of previous Tempus project – Masters Programmes in Public Health and Social Services, providing advanced degree in the field public health and social sciences. The ultimate goal is to merge and bring together training of higher level of professionals of two fields, enabling graduates to formulate and solve contemporary complex public health and social problems.

Graduates of the newly established MSc programs wish to attain an advanced degree in the field. However, the existing PhD systems do not correspond to the demands of researchers and health systems. The new PhD program will be thoroughly designed to meet the modern demands, considering and being built on the outcomes of the previous project.

Up to now there is no established PhD program either in Public Health or in Social Sciences in Armenia that would have a structured content with modules, credits and specific assignments. Moreover, there is no PhD program that would give an opportunity to connect both fields – Public Health and Social Sciences.

The objectives of the proposed project are:

  1. Comparative analysis of the PhD program structure across participating countries and respective universities and their compatibility with EU teaching schemes.
  2. Planning and harmonization of PhD programs in Public Health and Social sciences in Partner universities.
  3. Development of course contents, syllabi, learning outcomes and research plan, tailor-made for individual partner universities.
  4. Creation of online resources and e-learning courses for PhD students.
  5. Training of staff in EU universities in teaching, IT knowledge, research skills and project supervision in EU universities.
  6. Establishment of a fully structured PhD program in Public Health and Social Sciences and call for PhD students as a pilot program.
  7. Development and submission for approval to appropriate authorities the passport and code of specialty.
  8. Dissemination of project activities through interim and final conferences, paper publication.
