Faculty of General Medicine

History

It was established in 1999 on the basis of the union of such independent (self - employed) faculties as General Medicine, Pediatric and Preventive Medicine and, in fact, is considered the successor of Faculty of Medicine . The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1920. In 1927 the faculty had its first 32 doctors - graduates. The first dean of the faculty was S.Kh. Baghdasaryan (until 1937), who was also the head of   Social Hygiene Department.

Teaching:

The basic education of    General Medicine Faculty is currently being organized by a six-year continuous integrated program. Then it is followed by a four – year – long post-graduate course of study. The teaching is organized in Armenian language. At present there are about 3000 students studying at the faculty.  The students study  theoretical, as well as  specialized and correlated clinical subjects. During the practical classes educational phantoms, moldings, didactic materials are widely used. During the Master's study, teaching is accompanied by improved practical skills. After graduating from continuing integrated education, graduates are awarded a doctor's degree in "medical work".

The teaching of specialized subjects is carried out by the following chairs.

  • N 1, N 3, N 4 Chairs of Therapy
  • N 1, N 3, N 4 Chairs of Surgery
  • N1, N2 Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • N1, N2 Chairs of Pediatrics

The annual tuition fee is 1,000,000 AMD.

“Medical Work” Specialty Curriculum
“Medical Work” specialty fundamental education curriculum is carried out with a 6-year continuous and integrated program. Each of the 12 established semesters has educational study load of 30 ECTS credit. Annual study load is 60 ECTS credit, 1 credit is equivalent to 30 academic hours. During their education students are taught theoretical as well as specialized and clinical subjects. At the end of the course students are awarded with the qualification of Medical Doctor.
The educational process of theoretical subjects is carried out in the University buildings /biochemical, administrative, laboratory, anatomical/, the educational process of clinical subjects is carried out in the simulation centre of the University, University hospital complexes /”Muratsan” and “Heratsi”/, polyclinics /”Muratsan” and “Heratsi”, in the clinical diagnostic and pathological laboratories attached to the above mentioned complexes and in other RA preventive institutions which are located in the University clinical bases. The educational process is carried out by the teaching staff of the departments. The lecturers in the clinical departments are practical doctors.

Dean's office

The faculty is ruled by the dean. The dean’s office is the leading unit which is responsible for academic, methodological, scientific, organizational and disciplinary affairs. It coordinates daily activities conducted with departments and students. Attached to acting dean the dean’s office function faculty Scientific Academic Council and Student Dean's office.
