93-year-old Armenian doctor, philanthropist, cardiologist, Professor of Medical Sciences, member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the new Armenian Medical Journal of YSMU Aram Chobanian was the Honorary President of Boston University in 2003-2005, since 1994 he is foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, since 2000-Honorary member of the American Society of Physicians, since 2002-member of the European Academy of Sciences. He was awarded «Mkhitar Heratsi» medal, as well as the Gold Medal of the Yerevan State Medical University.
85-year-old philanthropist of Armenian origin, founder of “Khoren and Shushanik Avetisyan” school, musician, clarinetist of the famous Boston Pops orchestra Edward Avetisyan’s family was a refuge in the United States after the Armenian Genocide. He never forgot the hard work and dedication of his parents, their emphasis on education and became a philanthropist for both the USA and Armenia.
Despite all the donations, the benefactors of Armenian nationality have always shown modesty and never wanted anything to be called after their names.
In the case of Boston Medical University, they eventually agreed on that the school is named after both.
