An event dedicated to Hovhannes Tumanyan’s 150th anniversary was held at Northern University on February 20th, with Henrietta Sukiasyan, Head of the Department of Armenian Language and Medical Terminology of YSMU, and from the same faculty, the homonym choir of “Vernatun” Scientific-Cultural Center.
The rector of the Northern University, Boris Makichyan, made a welcoming speech, noting that it is a memorable day for all of them.
The Rector also stressed that the Indian students of the choir of YSMU “Vernatun” scientific-cultural center, who have almost Armenianized, are also participating in the event.
Vahe Enfiajyan, Deputy Chairman of the RA National Assembly, highlighting the organizing of the event mentioned: “With his lifetime, Tumanyan has left a path, a heritage for the generations and different social groups, which we not only use it as an example, but also as a thing to be proud of”.
Head of the Department of Armenian Language and Medical Terminology of YSMU, Associate Professor Henrieta Sukiasyan thanked the audience for the warm atmosphere and added: “From the beginning every man has a mission in his life. Someone is ought to medicate, one is to paint, another is destined to sing, another writes, and some have to criticize. However, in whatever they are working on, they should try to make their lives more interesting. The Northern University always organizes events properly and provides the public and the current generation with an access to Tumanyan’s contributions. The Armenian man, wherever he may be, wherever he might be studying, should keep his Armenian image, appreciate and recognize the cultural values of his homeland, since Tumanyan’s “Vernatun” has a great historical significance for the development of our culture. “
Henrietta Sukiasyan noted that the aim of YSMU “Vernatun” scientific-cultural center is to acquaint Armenian Diaspora, foreigners; Indians, Persians, Arabs, Jordanians with Armenian culture, and to introduce national mentality and value system among local students.
After Sukiasyan’s speech, the rector of the Northern University, Boris Makichyan, handed her a commemorative medal, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Tumanyan.
