Your present-day role continues the tradition formed from Narekatsi\u2019s A Voice for God through the Soviet-era Armenian medical-academic school and now the medical academy of the Republic of Armenia. According to statistical data from the Analytical Subdivision of the University Hospital, the Armenian people have been and remain resilient and united thanks to their physicians. As of 2023, the total number of doctors and allied medical staff in the Republic of Armenia is 30,073, of whom 13,943 are physicians across all specialties (including dental specialists)\u2014approximately 46.6 physicians per 10,000 population. This exceeds the global average, reflecting both the dedication of specialists and the latent strength of the system. During the most challenging phases of the pandemic in 2020\u20132021, Armenian physicians worked beyond all boundaries; the healthcare sector stood at the forefront of the nation, defending what is most precious\u2014life. Cardiologists. Cardiac care in Armenia has traveled a long road\u2014from specialized cardiac centers during the Soviet period to today\u2019s minimally invasive interventions. As of 2023, there are 594 cardiologists practicing in the Republic. In 2024, cardiovascular disease remained the leading cause of death in Armenia, accounting for approximately 47% of total mortality. If not for the tireless work of experienced specialists, this figure would have been far greater. Oncologists and hematologists fight the most formidable disease. That fight transcends medication or radiation; it includes hope, endurance, and psychological courage. Pediatricians and neonatologists are the first to hold the newborn\u2019s hand. Due to improvements in neonatal intensive care and regional services, infant mortality in Armenia continues to decline. Currently, 1,216 pediatric specialists serve nationwide. A child lives because of you.<\/p>\n
Radiologists, laboratory technicians, morphologists, and imaging specialists may not speak with the patient, but see what the patient cannot. Since 2018, Armenia has witnessed soaring advancements in diagnostic laboratories. About 70% of decisions based on diagnostic research stem from precise lab and imaging interpretations\u2014your gaze sees beyond appearances. As of 2023, there are 1,378 specialists in these fields.<\/p>\n
Pediatric gynecologists and reproductive health specialists preserve the very origin of life\u2014the spectrum of safe delivery and motherhood. In 2024, Armenia saw 33,648 births, most of which were attended by skilled specialists. The growth of the nation and family depends on you\u2014literally. As of 2023, pediatric gynecology specialists numbered 851. Behind every newborn is your conscientious attention.<\/p>\n
Preventive medicine and public health specialists aim to foretell, analyze, and manage health challenges at a societal level like never before. According to WHO data, up to 70% of factors impacting population health derive not from clinical medicine but from public health interventions. Today\u2019s greatest challenges\u2014pandemics, the spread of noncommunicable diseases, promoting healthy lifestyles, environmental risks\u2014lie in your domain. By devising health policy, supervising epidemic responses, and educating society, you serve not just the sick but the entire nation\u2019s health. Public health is the field where prevention is the greatest victory. In 2023, there were 316 public health and epidemiology experts.<\/p>\n
Primary care physicians, the bedrock of healthcare: in 2023, their number within the Primary Healthcare System was 5,561\u2014standing at the forefront of preserving and promoting human health, preventing and treating diseases. Allied health professionals also play a crucial role in ensuring quality care. In 2023, Armenia had 16,130 allied health employees, which equates to 53.9 per 10,000 population\u2014below the average of 36 member countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States, where the average is 88.<\/p>\n
The Armenian physician\u2014whether surgeon, gynecologist, radiologist, or neurologist\u2014is long more than a specialist: he carries society\u2019s conscience.
