About 100 international students of YSMU from 38 countries of the world, including military doctors, planted 100+33 trees in “Yerablur” military pantheon. This combination of numbers symbolizes the 100th anniversary of the Medical University, as well as the 33 heroes of YSMU who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the homeland during the last Artsakh war.
The event was initiated by the “Education Up side Down” non-governmental organization implementing educational and environmental programs, the co-founder of which is Hayarpi Sahakyan, a lecturer at the YSMU Department of Social Sciences.
“Since at the end of the semester every year we carry out a beneficial initiative with the students, this year, discussing and summarizing all the views, we decided to organize a tree planting. “As many foreign students describe, Armenia is their second home, for which the purpose of doing anything positive is to leave a small part in our country,” said the lecturer, adding that one of the goals of the event had a broader, environmental meaning, which is planting trees, taking care of nature to fight against various environmental problems, such as climate change and global warming.
Hayarpi Sahakyan emphasized that Kristina Vardanyan, Deputy Director for Development of the “Landscape gardening and environmental protection” Community NPO, Senior Lecturer of the Chamber of Hygiene and Ecology, who participated in the tree planting too, did a great job in implementing the initiative. It should be noted that the Department of Social Sciences will continue organizing cultural and educational events with the involvement of students.
