The Medical University hosted the Nazarian family on the 1st of October. Welcoming the honorable presence of American-Armenian radiologist and philanthropist Levon Nazarian, member of the Central Board of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), Professor of the University of Pennsylvania and Head of the Radiology Department; his wife Claudia and sons Matthew and Gregory at YSMU, Rector Armen Muradyan announced to the Scientific Council the start of the ceremonial session.
“This cooperation has a history of 15 years. As a result of it, the Medical University received unprecedented opportunities to develop clinical, scientific and educational platforms,” Armen Muradyan stressed. He suggested the members of the Scientific Council to observe a minute of silence to honor the famous philanthropist, public figure Nazar Nazarian and his wife Artemis.
According to the Rector’s assessment, the Nazarians are an example of people loving the motherland and benefiting it from hundreds of kilometers away. He emphasized the modest character of the renowned scientist Nazar Nazarian, whom he had the opportunity to meet in his office in New York in 2017, accompanied by Professor Hamayak Sisakyan.
Hamayak Sisakyan, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Head of the General and Invasive Cardiology and Internal Medicine Clinic of “Heratsi” University Hospital; briefly presented the biography of Levon Nazarian. “His biographical pages are full of rich and academic work, scientific advancement,” Hamayak Sisakyan said.
Taking into account the great contribution that the younger Nazarian had in the development of the University and its hospitals, Armen Minasyan, Vice-Rector for clinical works, applied to the Nomination Committee and submitted a petition.
The famous American-Armenian radiologist was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the University at the session of the Scientific Council.
Addressing his University colleagues with a word of gratitude, Levon Nazarian began his speech: “I really did not expect this kind of ceremony. I have been very connected with this university for almost 20 years. That connection first started when my teacher decided to start an ultrasound training program here in Armenia. We had four doctors from Armenia to Philadelphia. Doctor Sisakyan was our “superstar”. Then they went back, and we made the plans to build a training center here”.
Next, with the efforts of Levon Nazarian’s parents, an ultrasound research center and then a radiology center was formed in Armenia.
Honorary Professor of YSMU recalled the words of his father, Nazar Nazarian, noting that helping the other person is much more binding for yourself than for the one to whom the help is directed.
It should be noted that Levon Nazarian’s visit to the Medical University, accompanied by his wife and sons, started in the morning from “Heratsi” University Hospital. The philanthropist was also very impressed by the achievements of “Soldier’s House”.
The honored guests concluded their visit to “Muratsan” University Hospital by getting acquainted with the work of the children’s medical facility, clinical and educational programs aimed at children’s healthcare.
