The “Doctor’s Path” project, launched about 5 years ago at the initiative of the YSMU Career Development Center, continues its successful journey, guiding future doctors on their difficult but infinitely humanitarian path through theoretical and practical skills.
In the new academic year, it is planned to conduct the project also in Russian and English, with the aim of involving international students in the program as well.
The initiative, unique in format and content, was brought to life precisely as a result of the students’ inexhaustible enthusiasm and efforts.
Today, “Doctor’s Path” is one of the most important platforms of the alma mater, and is gradually expanding thanks to the project’s co-authors and coordinators, YSMU graduates Gertsina Petrosyan, Tigran Chukhajyan, and Lyova Tsarukyan.
As Gertsina says, the project undergoes changes from time to time. “Initially, the emphasis was on the ethics, but over time we realized that we had to find new interests, because one of the main goals of the project was to find a connection with medicine through other professions,” she says.
During this project, they try to make sure that the participants both relax and gain new contacts and skills. “Most recently, a diplomat by profession joined our team, and from now on we are studying medical diplomacy, because experience has shown that it is difficult to push the healthcare sector forward with local efforts.
We, the members of the mentoring team, have also changed the topics of our lectures. After undergoing several trainings, I am talking about the connection between medicine and artificial intelligence, because the use of innovative technologies in our field brings success, and it is a tool that should guide every doctor in his or her work,” Gertsina Petrosyan assures.
They constantly maintain contact with the program graduates.
According to Tigran Chukhajyan, emotional intelligence is also included in the skills of good behavior. “Emotional intelligence plays a rather large role in interpersonal relationships, especially in professions where work has a direct and immediate connection with a person. In terms of medicine, it is of essential importance, because a person coming to a doctor needs to be understood spiritually. That is why it is very important for a doctor to have a good command of emotional intelligence,” Tigran tells, adding that emotional intelligence is considered a branch of psychology, and starting from 2022, the “Doctor’s Path” project introduced the “Emotional Behavior” course, which is based on emotional intelligence.
Lyova Tsarukyan’s teaching topic was related to ethics, now 3 main topics have been added, which he tries to convey to his friends: self-development, time management, and self-confidence. Each topic, according to him, is very important in itself, not only in medicine, but also in everyday life. “Self-development is one of the most important foundations of success. Time management is mainly for our younger friends: when they first come to university, they need some example, based on which they will be able to organize their path correctly and effectively. The path of a doctor begins immediately, at first, you have no idea how you will go, where you will get to, and self-confidence must definitely come with you,” – Lyova emphasizes.
Regardless of age, status, and many other circumstances, they continue to enter their alma mater as students. The Medical University will always remain their alma mater, and they will be its children, this is where they were formed and continue to be formed as people and specialists.
Starting from September, the “Doctor’s Path” project will organize and continue its courses at the same pace and schedule.
