Enhancing child health in Armenia: collaboration with German professors

“Muratsan” University Hospital is hosting 4 professors from Germany on a working visit from the first days of this month until February 17.

This is the third visit of professional groups to the university medical institution in cooperation with the German Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kinder- und Jugendmedizin, DGKJ)․ Such visits will be ongoing.

The day at “Muratsan” hospital begins with a visit to the departments at 9:30 a.m. by medical scientists, then continues with consultations and lectures of various profiles in the second half of the day.

“The goal of the cooperation is to support Armenian colleagues in enhancing child health. Within the framework of the visit, patient consultations and discussions of complex cases are organized. German colleagues also give advice on the further management of patients,” the Head of the “Muratsan” complex Hripsime Apresyan explains, also speaking about the educational component of the visit which refers to lectures for clinical residents and doctors, and future doctors of higher courses.

According to pediatric neonatologist Orsolya Genzel Boroviczeny, who has extensive experience in international cooperation, Armenian-German cooperation is very effective. In her opinion, Armenia is wonderful: the country is beautiful, with all its monasteries and sights.

Ulrich Stefani, a specialist in pediatric neurology, emphasizes: “Our colleagues here are very much informed about their patients, they have good knowledge of diseases. We see how devoted the staff is doing its work with patients. This is an international standard. So, it is very few that we can contribute. Physicians here are very knowledgeable.”

According to pediatric surgeon Lucas Wessel, Armenian-German medical cooperation is promising: “The work here meets international standards. We can fruitfully discuss a variety of professional issues with our Armenian colleagues”.

Pediatric rheumatologist Gunther Erwin Dannecker assures that they will definitely come back in the near future. “This is an excellent cooperation. Medical education here is at a high level. Next time, we may talk not only about diseases, but also about some structural reforms,” ​​he adds.

At the Pediatric and Neonatal Resuscitation Clinic, Armenian specialists discuss with foreign colleagues modern methods of treating the babies born with various problems and guiding them towards a full life.

According to Hrant Kalenteryan, Head of the Clinic, an experienced neonatologist, pediatric anesthesiologist-resuscitator, the visits of colleagues and discussions with them are very useful.

It should be noted that the next visit of German colleagues to “Muratsan” university hospital is scheduled for May of this year.
