“The Ceylon Express-2025”: Sri Lankan future doctors celebrated the New Year

The Red Hall was filled with festive spirit: about 150 Sri Lankan future doctors celebrated the national New Year.

YSMU Rector Armen Muradyan came to congratulate the students.

The event started with a solemn candlelight ceremony, which has a spiritual gesture of respect in Sri Lankan culture. Then the national anthems of Armenia and Sri Lanka were played.

Those present honored with a minute of silence the memory of student Nayara Ranjithsingh, who passed away in 2024.

Sri Lankan students greeted from the stage the Head of the University; Yervand Sahakyan, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and External Relations; Gayane Avetisyan, Head of the Department of International Students’ Education; Deputy Heads Anahit Aznauryan and Mary Mkhitaryan; Rahul Anil Sethi, Head of the Department of International Students’ Affairs; Michelle Qocharyan, President of the Student Parliament.

As part of an interesting historical overview titled “The Ceylon Express-2025”, the participants traveled as passengers to different cities of Sri Lanka and got to know the attractive features of the island in detail. The students themselves characterized their homeland as a unique mix of traditions, religions, and cultures.

Song and dance performances in beautiful national costumes, impressive staging complemented the festive atmosphere, making the day memorable for future doctors and those responsible for the education of international students at the University.
