The “School of Success” initiative of Yerevan State Medical University hosted Nelli Bejanyan, YSMU alumna and an Associate Professor at the Department of oncologic sciences, University of South Florida, tenured Associate member at Moffitt Cancer Center, Section Head, Leukemia/Myeloid – Department of BMT-CI, Clinical Scientific Co-Director of Cancer Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics Core.
During the meeting, the oncologist shared her success story with professors and future doctors. Nelli Bejanyan touched upon the differences between working in Armenia and the United States. The specialist mentioned that in 1999 she graduated from the Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi, and in 1999-2002 she passed a residency in plastic surgery at the University Medical Center. “I met my husband, Alex Lazaryan, at YSMU. At the end of 2002, I moved with him to the United States for further education and training”, Nelli Bejanyan told.
Speaking about the reasons for her personal involvement in clinical trials in the field of acute myeloid leukemia and stem cell transplantation, the oncologist recalled with regret that in the 80s her cousin's disease forced her to specialize in this field, to try to change something in the treatment of the disease.
