Bimal Kumar Gupta, a second-year student at the Faculty of General Medicine of Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi, considers Armenia a country of wonderful nature, ancient culture and unique traditions. The 20-year-old future doctor was born and raised in Gorakhpur, India.

“When I was in high school, my science and math were both good. But my dream is to become a doctor, so I thought it was better to take science and after that, choose the medical profession”, Indian student tells. Bimal was also interested in karate. “I learned karate for 6 years until I reached high school and won a gold medal in the Karate tournament at the state level”, he adds.

Bimal always tries to do something new. “Because I love what I do, I have a steady source of motivation that drives me to do my study best. I love traveling different places and exploring new places, enjoying good food with a glass of fresh juice with nice music. One thing I wanted in my life is to touch the height of success, and I'm sure, I will definitely do that”, – he assures.

The wish to become a doctor came due to his family. “My parents’ work was related to medical professions. I saw them while helping and caring people. That's why I decided to become a doctor. And also I like the way people usually listen when doctors talk”, Bimal emphasizes, adding that he wanted to become a highly professional doctor.

“My father always says life should be lived for others. We have to help people who are in problem. In one sentence, working for humanity is my dream”, – he says.

The future doctor found information about 100-year-old medical university on the internet. “I was amazed while seeing it has been operating since 1920! And when seeing the website, I got more information about the University, its branches, students’ reviews and hospitals connected with our university. All these things give me a good vibes to study here”, Bimal tells.

Armenia is a second motherland for the Indian student. “I love Armenia. People of Armenia are very kindhearted, they treat us very friendly. There are many beautiful places in Armenia as, for example, the beautiful view of Ararat. Clean and pure water is everywhere. All these things make me proud because I chose to study in Armenia”, he says.

According to Bimal, YSMU lecturers provide best knowledge, even during online classes in the situation of COVID-19.

After General medicine he would like to study Neurosurgery. “Neuroscience is fascinating. The nervous system finesses chemistry and electricity into incredible, elegant processes that make us who we are. It is thrilling for me when a neurologic deficit improves after surgery”, Bimal says.

“If I have opportunity to stay here and work with Armenian people and for their country, it would be a matter of great pride for me”, – he assures.

Doctor, according to him, is not only a name tag; it's a way of feeling responsibility. “A good doctor cares of his or her patient, minimizes pain and recovers faster from disease, accidents and all. A good doctor has to be strong from the heart and the mind to focus perfectly on his or her duty. We have to focus also on better learning, technique and procedures”, the Indian student thinks.

At the end, Bimal Gupta shares his motto of life: “We live once, so put all the effort to make life successful, so that later there will be no regrets”.
