The Sri Lankan student considers the education at YSMU as an advantage

Future endocrinologist Hivi Kumanayake has come to Armenia from Sri Lanka. 3rd year student of the Faculty of General Medicine chose to come to Armenia as he heard YSMU had a really good education system which was affordable as well. According to him, YSMU has an amazing staff. “The learning is mostly done in study groups which creates a healthy competitive environment. This also allows our professors to give us undivided individual attention”, Hivi Kumanayake says.

He chose the profession of a doctor as he was really good at learning science and other scientific subjects. “Besides, my mother is a doctor, general physician, though right now she is working at the administrative part of the hospital. So, I thought that was what I was supposed to do”, Hivi notes.

He is convinced: being able to help people when they are in need is a privilege. It’s not a coincidence that doctors are respected worldwide.

Among the challenges he singles out the necessity to learn a lot. “Even after finishing the MD Degree, I think we will have a lot to learn”, Hivi assures.

He has an interesting hobby: he plays chess, which he knows is very popular in Armenia.

Hivi Kumanayake reminds to his juniors once again that coming to YSMU is privilege and an opportunity. “Doing medical degree is not easy: if it was easy, everyone would do it. You have to be consistent, you have to be focused, and have trust in yourself”, he concludes.

More than 200 Sri Lankan students are currently studying at the Medical University.

The “MD” Degree of the Medical University was re-approved by the Medical Council of Sri Lanka, which is the result of the re-accreditation of the given educational program of the Medical University.
