A clinical case description – among the top five presentations at Weill Cornell Infectious Diseases Seminar

Goulia Ohan, an Epidemiologist, Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and first-year clinical resident in the Department of Infectious Diseases, recently presented our country in the Weill Cornell Infectious Diseases Seminar organized by the Open Medical Institute in Salzburg.

Her outstanding work earned her a position among the top five presenters out of 34 participants, where she presented a clinical case description on Hemorrhagic Varicella. During the seminar, she highlighted the significance of understanding that chickenpox which is an infectious disease, and can give rise to complications, with the hemorrhagic form that often can be a life-threatening. Tragically, delays in seeking medical attention is frequently responsible for such outcomes.

As a young and dedicated researcher, Goulia Ohan ardently hopes that our country will implement a comprehensive chickenpox vaccination program in the near future. By doing so, she aims to make a significant contribution to preventing the severe progression and complications associated with this disease.

Goulia, originally from Syria, relocated to Armenia in 2012 to pursue her medical education. She has since undertaken a comprehensive academic journey encompassing medical education, internships, and clinical residencies, all with the ultimate goal of becoming a highly skilled specialist dedicated to combating infectious diseases effectively.
