“Healthcare and Innovation” 4th online Conference took place in Yerevan

The 4th online Conference “Healthcare and Innovation” took place from June 10 – 12, 2021 in Yerevan. Dr. Zizis Kozlakidis from the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer), ARICE (Armenian Research Infrastructure on Cancer Research) expert, was talking at the conference, explaining modern approaches in cancer research using biomarkers not only for cancer research, but also for cancer diagnosis in the daily clinical routine.

According to Dr. Kozlakidis, the future challenges in cancer research include the complex field of biomarker research and the focus on validating and processing increased numbers of incoming clinical data. Providing their expertise, the ARICE collaborates (IARC and two European universities) are aiming to boost cancer research in Armenia, allowing YSMU to compete successfully when compared to international research standards.

The IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) is part of the WHO (World Health Organization) and is conducting and organizing research on cancer and cancer prevention. The experts in this field are actively supporting Armenia’s cancer research by participating at the ARICE project.

The Conference also hosted Karine Sargsyan from the Medical University of Graz (Austria), currently engaging in the ARICE project, which is aiming to enhance research activity and quality at YSMU.

Sargsyan enlightens current scientific challenges, with the focus on biological samples, like blood and tissue. These samples derived from donors (patients) are not only used for clinical diagnostics, they can be stored at biobanks under controlled conditions, which makes them suitable for medical research.

Transferring the knowledge about possible errors in medical diagnostics and medical research is one of the goals of the ARICE project, in order to strengthen research at YSMU and ensure correct diagnosis in clinical practice.

At best, not only cancer research at YSMU, but research in general, and not to forget the Armenian population benefit from the efforts made by the ARICE consortium.
