For YSMU Indian student the interest in medical field outweighs its hardships

Indian student Raksha Anand have always dreamt of becoming a doctor since her school days. Raksha is a 3rd course student at Yerevan State Medical University, the Faculty of General Medicine. The 21-year-old future cardiothoracic surgeon is also a member of the Council of international students of YSMU Students’ Parliament.

Raksha was born in Bangalore, a city in south India.

“Since childhood, I have been a very ambitious and driven person. I thrive on challenges and constantly set goals for myself. I always look for an opportunity to do better and achieve success. I have always been interested in science and Indian classical music. I am also a guitarist and an Indian classical vocalist”, she tells.

Being a medical doctor, according to Raksha, is really great. “It is stimulating and interesting. Doctors get to witness humanity at its very best, although this field is full of hardship and challenges. As I grew up, I was more worried about the hardships and challenges of this field and was on the verge of giving up on my dream of being a doctor. But the almighty God has his ways. In India, as a part of a student scientific research group from my last year of school, we visited a very famous mental health and neurosciences hospital “NIMHANS” to see various people with mental disorders and disabilities. It was here that I realized that the medical field was a thousand folds more interesting and heart whelming than the hardships of this field. And, finally, here I am at Yerevan State Medical University, pursuing MBBS”, she says.

The main reason for Raksha to choose YSMU is that this medical institution has been very well recognized by leading international organizations. “To add to the greatness of the institution is its location. It Is located in this very beautiful country “ARMENIA” in the capital city YEREVAN. The love, homeliness, equality and safety offered by this country and its people is just incredible! If given a chance, I would love to stay and work in this magnificent city as a doctor”, she hopes.

From her point of view, great communication skills, great work ethic, good leadership qualities and compassion are very important to become a good doctor and to have a successful career. “Life is the biggest gift, and we as doctors are the people who have the ability to help every individual preserve this gift in its best condition. Every patient looks up to a doctor with utmost trust and belief. So, we must strive hard to pursue our passion with complete knowledge and excellence to keep up with the hopes of our patients and to save numerous lives from disease, death and danger”, future cardiothoracic surgeon concludes.
