Before the start of the final stage of the International students' debate competition, those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the Armenian heroes who died for the sake of the homeland and also to the sudden demises of CDS of india Gen. Bipin Rawat. Two teams of future foreign doctors (Team 2 and Team 7) had a heated debate on “Whose contribution is greater in the medical field, the physician or the general surgeon?”.
The competition jury consisted of Deputy Dean of International Education, Senior Lecturer of the Chair of Histology Anahit Aznauryan, Deputy Dean of International Education, Lecturer of the Chair of Normal Anatomy Mary Mkhitaryan, Head of Academic affairs department, Head of the Chair of Pharmacology, Associate Professor Aram Baykov, Head of International Students Affairs Rahul Anil Sethi. The latter urged the parties of the debate to refer to clear numbers, the results of research, pointing out the mistakes of physicians and surgeons. According to the results of the jury, the winner was the seventh team (Team 7), the members of which were awarded certificates and books. Certificates were also handed to all the other participants of the debate competition. Congratulating the participants of the debate, Aram Baykov called on the students to focus on the importance of the healthcare system in general. “Most of the questions that are the subject of debate are controversial, there is no clear right answer. Each medical specialty has its patients”, the lecturer emphasized. Mary Mkhitaryan thanked all the organizers and participants of the event. “In your future career, you will definitely realize the importance of good communication skills and ethics,” she added.
The President of the Student Parliament Tigran Aleksanyan expressed satisfaction with the fact that the debate games in the medical university started from foreign students. “I am sure that the games will be continuous and the debate will be contagious,” he stressed. At the end of the event, Rahul Anil Sethi emphasized: “I want each of you, appearing in different countries of the world, to show with your knowledge and abilities that he is “YSMU product”. We should be proud to hear your name in this or that field of medicine”.
Lokesh Prabakaran, President of the Council of International Students, concluded the debate competition with a word of gratitude.
