The strong friendship of YSMU Indian graduates will become the basis of joint projects in the future

Arafath Hussain Ibrahim, Elakkiya Priya Anandan and Vijayaraja Shanmugam, graduates of the Faculty of General Medicine of Yerevan State Medical University; are close friends. They have been pillars of strength for each other, supporting themselves through the highs and lows of their studies during these 6 years. They have celebrated achievements of each other, big and small, and offered words of encouragement when they faced setbacks.

Beyond emotional support, the friends have been invaluable study partners. They have formed study groups and shared knowledge and resources. Together, they have tackled complex concepts, engaged in lively discussions, and pushed one another to reach their full potential. Their intellectual curiosity and dedication to learning have inspired them to strive for academic excellence, their friendship has added color and richness to their academic journey, making it all the more memorable. 

Arafath Hussain Ibrahim is filled with passion, determination, and the unwavering commitment to serve others through the noble profession of Medicine. “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our Dean, Vice-Deans, the Faculty, the Staff, seniors and administrators of Yerevan State Medical University for their unwavering support and guidance throughout our educational journey. Yerevan State Medical University holds a special place in my heart. It has been home for several years”, he emphasizes. First and foremost, Arafath continues, being a medical student is a privilege and a tremendous responsibility. “We are entrusted with the lives and well-being of individuals who come to us seeking care and healing. Each day, we are immersed in a world of knowledge, where science, compassion, and human connection intertwine. We witness the triumphs and challenges of the human body, and we learn to navigate the complexities of the human condition. Throughout our medical education, we are not merely studying textbooks or memorizing facts. We are developing a deep understanding of the human body, honing our clinical skills, and cultivating our ability to empathize and connect with patients. Our YSMU teachers helped us and were so much supportive throughout our classes, we learned to communicate effectively, to listen attentively, and to offer comfort and support during times of vulnerability. It is through these interactions that we truly grasp the privilege of being entrusted with the care of another human being”, he tells.

Speaking about his future plans, Arafath says that the first thing is the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination). “The FMGE examination is a crucial milestone in our journey as international medical graduates. The significance of this examination in our pursuit of becoming licensed medical professionals in our home country INDIA is crucial. After that we have 12 months of internship. I share my ambition to become a General Surgeon. The path I have chosen is not an easy one, but it is a calling that resonates deep within me – a calling to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and contribute to the field of medicine in a meaningful way. We are the future of medicine, and with that comes a tremendous responsibility to advance the field. It is our duty to question the status quo, to seek innovative solutions, and to contribute to medical research and advancements. Whether it be through conducting clinical trials, participating in cutting-edge research, or challenging existing paradigms, we have the potential to shape the future of healthcare”, he assures.

Elakkiya Priya Anandan wishes to become Obstetrician and gynecologist. “I am delighted to be studying at my first university choice, Yerevan State Medical University.

In regards to academic, it was quite tough at first, but then slowly I started working on my level best. All those years I developed and improved on many vital skills, such as practical communication, and the value of these skills for my future career. I gained many skills to help me as a self-dependent learner. The facilities the University offers are excellent, and I believe these are helping to make my education the best”, she notes, adding that the facilities available have given her a clear picture of practical skills.

Vijayaraja Shanmugam wishes to become Orthopaedic Surgeon. “As we graduate and transition into the role of physicians, we must remain lifelong learners. Medicine is a field that is constantly evolving, with new discoveries and breakthroughs emerging every day. We must commit ourselves to staying current with the latest knowledge and best practices, to refine our skills, and to embrace the concept of continuous improvement. As graduates of Yerevan State Medical University, we carry the torch of knowledge, compassion, and excellence. Let us go forth with confidence, embracing the immense responsibility and privilege that comes with being healthcare professionals. Together, let us strive to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals, communities, and the world at large”, he concludes.

It should be noted that the international graduates of YSMU in the 2022-2023 academic year are from 16 countries of the world. This year, about 200 foreign future doctors graduated the Medical University.
