YSMU student from Sri Lanka: A doctor is responsible for bringing smile on the patient’s face

Kamshiga Sivakumar is a second-year student of the Faculty of General Medicine of Yerevan State Medical University.

22-year-old future oncologist is from the central province of Sri Lanka. She is interested in classical dance (Bharathanatyam) and reading books.

Becoming a doctor was a biggest childhood dream for her. “In my province there weren’t many doctors, so that was also a reason for me to choose medicine. My parents, grandpa and grandma inspired me a lot and encouraged me to fulfil my dreams”, international student tells.

Kamshiga was lucky enough in her research to get to know about Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi. “The academic standard and reputation of the university amazed me. I got a deep intention that this would be the best place for me to pursue my dream. Our lecturers are well experienced and knowledgeable, their interaction with students is so comfortable and useful”, she emphasizes.

Armenia has become a 2nd motherland for Kamshiga. “You have a beautiful country with a lot of natural surrounding and friendly people”, she adds.

After the graduation she wishes she could stay here but she will return to Sri Lanka to get registered in the medical council there. “I hope I will return to Armenia one day to do some service to the all lovely people here”, Kamshiga assures.

Doctors, from her point of view, have a big responsibility to bring smiles on the faces of suffering humanity. “So, according to me, the doctor should be highly knowledgeable and compassionate. My best wishes to all those sisters and brothers who have chosen medicine. I would like to say that becoming a doctor requires a lot of hard work and determination to succeed”, Kamshiga Sivakumar concludes.
