Library
The YSMU Library is the first medical library in the country. It was founded in 1930 and initially had 5500 books.
Currently, the library has more than 510,000 items and about 8,000 readers, comprising professional staff, students, graduate students, residents, health care system employees.
The library collection includes:
- book depository (monographs, scientific publications, dissertation overviews, dissertations, periodicals),
- educational literature,
- professional literature in foreign languages (English, Russian, French, German),
- educational, informative books in the reading hall.
The first textbooks authored by famous doctors are preserved with utmost care. The library closely cooperates with the educational methodological department, dean’s offices, academic departments and the student parliament.
The library offers free wireless internet access (Wi-Fi).
To access the electronic library of YSMU, please visit www.ysmubooks.am. The university has acquired access to the scientific and educational electronic resources provided by the EBSCO company. Currently, the following resources are accessible to all YSMU students and affiliated employees:
- Medline Ultimate: the most comprehensive version of the Medline database for medical scientific publications. This database comprises 3,105 full-text scientific journals (including 1,650 closed-access publications with current full-text, 1,550 of which are indexed in Scopus or Web of Science). The scientific content of the database is sourced from leading international publishers such as Springer Nature, Wiley-Blackwell, Taylor & Francis, John Wiley & Sons, BioMed Central, Oxford University Press, Sage Publications, Karger AG, Hindawi Limited, Elsevier B.V. and many others. The database covers major subject areas, encompassing life sciences, biomedicine, healthcare administration, and general medicine, as well as bioengineering, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, and more. Additionally, Medline Ultimate includes a medical subject rubric, Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) developed by the US National Library of Medicine (Medical subject headings).
- eBooks Medical Subscription Collection: a collection of full-text e-books for medical professionals and medical university students, which includes more than 4200 books from leading foreign publishers such as HCPro, McGraw-Hill Education, Oxford University Press, Thieme Medical Publishing Inc. etc., in surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, internal medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, pharmacology, pediatrics and other branches of medicine.
- Scientific and Medical Art Imagebase: a collection of medical images, illustrations and other media files in over 20 medical branches such as anatomy, biology, histology, diseases, pathology, psychology, traumatology, surgery, embryology and more. The resource contains more than 24,000 medical images, more than 1,200 animated materials, 250+ monographic materials, 43 ready-made training programs. The platform available in 14 different languages (including Russian), facilitates image previewing, user comments, and provides tools for editing and sharing materials.
- Dynamed is an evidence-based medicine resource that offers swift access to evidence-based information endorsed by experts in the field. The resource comprises reviews and analyses of scientific articles, presenting the best evidence for medical practice, examples from the practice of leading experts, treatment recommendations with a rating indicating the level of evidence (ranging from high to medium to low).

Access is granted on the YSMU campus through an IP address.
Terms & Conditions of Use of Library
Access to the library is granted to university employees and all students. Students from state universities within the Republic and employees from external organizations may use the reading room, only with the consent of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of YSMU.
- To register at the library, it is required to present a valid passport, one 3×4 photo, for students studying in fee-paying system, tuition fee receipt is required.
- Students can borrow textbooks aligned with their curriculum until the end of the corresponding subject. Failure to return books in time results in a suspension of library services for the reader.
- In case of loss or damage of a book, the reader is obliged to submit an exact replacement of the lost book or an equivalent book as specified by the library.
- Service in the reading room is provided through student cards.
- In the reading room, apart from educational literature, it is possible to request additional multi-subject literature.
- A single copy book, reference publications, dissertations, rare books, and periodicals is restricted to usage within the reading room.
The library is situated on the 2nd floor of the laboratory building.
