Hematology

Was founded in   2004 year.

Before foundation of chair of hematology the classes of hematology was taught  by the professors of staff of therapy and pediatry, who were in same time the doctors of blood transfusion scientific research institute after prof. Yeolyan and after the doctors of Center of Hematology after prof. Yeolyan. In  2001y. the chief of this center became S. Daghbashyan, who in 2004 y. founded the chair of  hematology and transfusiology. Need of foundation of this chair coming out from the situation that hematology and transfusiology are the most important and the most rapidly developed branches of actual medicine, which are closely compared with the other branches of medicine.

Professional classes in chair passed in 5-day courses (30 hours- 1.5 credit) for faculty of general medicine (for local and foreign students) in 5-th year, for faculty of stomatology in first year of master, and 5-day courses for foreign faculty of stomatology in 5-th year.

All courses are passed in clinical base of the staff in clinical departments of Center of Hematology after prof. R. Yeolyan.

During the courses the teachers does scientific researches and works with patients in hospital.

The clinical base of chair has clinical and out-patient departments of adult and children, which are erupted with cytological, cytogenetical, immunological, coagulological laboratories, departments of collecting and delivering of blood and esc, where are everything for organizing the education of students on good degree.

By the staff are formed the educative programs for student in three langue for faculty of general medicine and stomatology, and by the staff are writhen the handbooks of blood physiology and diseases and test-works.

Duration of residency of hematology for clinical residents is three years. At first year of residency the clinical residents learn the laboratory and instrumental findings methods, transfusion medicine and participate of daily rounds. At second and third years the educations include the seminar works, patients care, and participation of clinical conferences. Duration of residency is three year.

Scientific research project in the department:

• The spreadness of blood diseases in Armenia, more effective methods of diagnostic and treatment, safety of hemotransfusion,
• Since 2008 teachers of chair take place on scientific subject of familial Mediterranean Fever problem in Armenian population.

The chair of hematology is collaborated with russian hematologists from Center of Hematology of RF. Was presented lot of scientific works in different international congresses.

By the staff are published almost 10 scientific works per year.

The staff is actively participating in different international congresses:

• 2007, 2011 years – International congress of Armenian doctors,
• 2010 year – International congress of YSMU 90-th anniversary,

2008, 2010 years –  “Actual issues of hematology and transfusiology” international congress
