History
The history of All-arms training cycle has started since 1930s, when the basic elements of general military training began to be taught in the Yerevan Medical Institute. Initially it was only for providing military knowledge.
In 1940 §The Department of Military Science¦ was founded which later in 1954 was renamed as §The Department of Military Medicine¦ and afterwards, in 1991, as §The Chair of Medical Service Organization and Tactics¦. In 1994-2008 the cycle operated under the chair of Medical Service Organization and Tactics as a §General Military Training Cycle¦. In 2008 it already became a separate cycle named as §All-arms Training Cycle¦.
Now students and cadets of all the faculties of the YSMU and the YSMU college study this cycle.
The lessons are conducted in 3 languages: Armenian, Russian and English.
In 1998-2003 the Cycle was headed by Colonel S.E. Sahakyan. Since 2003 Lieutenant – colonel G.M. Tumasyan has been heading the cycle.
There are no teachers with any scientific degree or title in the cycle.
In the cycle of combined arms training of the military medical faculty, classes are attended by:
- Students, interns and clinical oordinators of all faculties of YSMU – within the framework of the subject “General military training”.
- College students (pharmaceutics, dentistry, paramedical work, laboratory diagnostics and prosthetics) of YSMU – within the framework of the subjects “General military training” and “Primary military training”.
The cycle staff conducts scientific-pedagogical researches on the basic issues of the troop activities in mountainous areas, that can occur during different battles in high mountainous conditions, as well as the peculiarities and principles of military discipline and its strengthening in the military subdivisions.
More than 10 articles and 2 teaching manuals have been edited and published by the lecturers of the cycle concerning §General Military Training¦ and §Military Topography¦.
