Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine

History

The department was founded in 2011.

Head of the Department PhD Professor Okoev George.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Postgraduate and Continuing Education, Yerevan State Medical University aftered M. Heratsi was formed and founded on the basis of the department of the same name of the National Institute of Health named after  S. Avdalbekyan of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia in 2011 and operates in the medical centers “Research Center of Maternal and Child Health Protection”, “St. Grigor Lusavorich” MC, “Erebuni” MC, “SlavMed”MC and “Shengavit”MC.

Education

The main objectives of the educational activities of the department are:

  • training of doctors in the framework of postgraduate training in the specialty “Obstetrics and Gynaecology”,
  • improvement of obstetrician-gynecologists in modern issues of obstetrics and gynaecology and reproductive medicine,
  • training for midwives and nurses,
  • training for midwives.

Admission to clinical residency and postgraduate studies in the specialty “Obstetrics and Gynaecology” is carried out according to the general rules and conditions of YSMU.

The clinical residency curriculum involves the implementation of lectures and practical classes, thematic seminars, as well as participation in the analysis of the diagnosis and treatment of patients, the management of inpatients and outpatients under the guidance of the head of the department or the head of clinical residency, it is planned to assist in gynecological obstetric operations, familiarization with private departments of related specialties, participation in research work, mastering practical skills in the planned program, familiarization with professional literature, examination and / or certification testing of clinical residents.

Scientific-research works

Scientific-research works of the staff of the department is devoted to

  • study of immunological aspects in pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology
  • pregnancy problems,
  • improvement of methods of functional diagnostics in obstetric and gynaecological practice
  • modern problems of infertility and the introduction of assisted reproductive technologies,
  • optimization of early diagnosis and prevention of osteoporosis in women with surgical and natural menopause,
  • modern diagnostics of hypertensive conditions in pregnant women

    Employees of the department are the authors of more than 700 scientific works, regularly participate in international scientific conferences, seminars on obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive medicine.

    From 2020 to the present, the department has been renamed into the “Department of Postgraduate Continuing Education of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine of YSMU”.
