History
1971 – Oncology course at the Department of Surgery (M.Kh. Hayrapetyan), Basis: Institute of Radiology and Oncology 1975 – The Chair of Oncology was founded, Basis: the Institute of Medical Radiology, Head of the Chair M. Kh. Hairapetyan: Since 1981 the Chair of Oncology has been situated in Scientific Center of Oncology after V. A. Fanarjyan In 1985 chairs of roentgenology, radiology and oncology have been merged, Head of the Chair H. A. Danielyan In 1993 the Chair was renamed as Radiation Diagnostics, Radiation Therapy and Oncology, Head of the Chair V. S. Barseghyan
In 2009 the chair was rebuilt, the bases were the Muratsan University Hospital and the National Center for Oncology, Head of the Chair S. H. Danielyan
In 2016 from November the Head of the Chair is A.H. Tananyan
Education
The course of Oncology is organized in National Centre of Oncology named after V. Fanargyan and at the Department of Chemotherapy of “Muratsan” clinic in the form of cyclic classes and lectures. During practical classes students study the following principles of Oncology: diagnosis, treatment of oncological diseases, differentiation of benign and malignant tumors and patients’ case history writing. Students study the classification of disease stages by TNM system, the morphological and other methods of diagnosis (imprint, scraping, FNA, excisional, incisional and core biopsies). Students study the basic treatment modalities of malignant tumours, indications and contraindications. They study the peculiarities of dispanserization of oncological patients.
Postgraduate education
Postgraduate education at the department includes Clinical Residency with the duration of 2 years and PhD with that of 3 years.
