History
The department was founded at 1985.
The Department of Clinical Pharmacology was founded in 1985 (clinical base – University Hospital N1). Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Romen Gh. Boroyan was the founder and the Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology for further 23 years. Romen Gh. Boroyan published more than 200 scientific researches, 15 monographs and textbooks. Many theses were prepared and defended under his supervision.
Many graduates and former members of department – clinical pharmacologists and clinical pharmacists nowadays work in different medical and scientific institutions.
Educational process
The syllabus of clinical pharmacology consists of practical and lecture classes. Students hold control tests and the final exam.
During the practical classes students visit patients in hospital, make clinical-diagnostic and clinical-pharmacological case-based analyses.
The 5th grade students of Faculties of General Medicine and Military Medicine study Clinical Pharmacology for 2 weeks (90 hours). The 5th grade Stomatological Faculty’s students study Clinical Pharmacology for 1 week (45 hours).
The 4th grade Pharmaceutical Faculty’s bachelors study Clinical Pharmacology in the VII semester for 2 weeks (90 hours), in the VIII semester – for 4 weeks (180 hours).
The Pharmaceutical Faculty’s masters study Clinical Pharmacology for 3 weeks (135 hours) and Clinical Pharmacy for 4 weeks (180 hours).
During last 5 years many handbooks for students and residents in Armenian, Russian and English were provided by the staff of the Department. The members of Department are at the same time the co-authors of the “Armenian Drug National Formulary” (Yerevan, 2007, 2008) and the “Handbook of Pharmacotherapy for physicians and pharmacists” (Yerevan, 2001).
Post-gradual education
Residency
“Clinical pharmacology” – duration 2 year;
“Clinical pharmacy” – duration 2 year.
The residents of different specializations study the clinical pharmacology during l week.
PhD – duration 3 years.
The Department is located in the University Hospital N1.
Research activities
During the last 10 years the members of the department were defended the thesis for a Doctor’s degree “Pharmacological correction of experimental cerebrovascular disorders by GABA-agonists” (2009), Ph.D. theses “Experimental studies of hepatotropic action of Actibiol-Liver preparation” (2002) and “Evaluation of daily blood pressure and arterial stiffness characteristics’ changes under the action of different antihypertensive medications” (2008), “Investigation of neuroprotective activity of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine hemisuccinate” (2015).
At present the field of the department scientific research is “Pharmaceutical correction of cerebro- and cardiovascular disorders”.
Collaboration
The Department of Clinical Pharmacology collaborates with V.V. Zakusov’s Scientific-research Institute of Pharmacology of National Academy of Medical Sciences of the Russian Federation.
Due to agreement between the universities residents of the department attended the training course in
- the Department of Clinical Pharmacology with Pharmaceutical Care of Ukraine National Pharmaceutical University
- Specialized High School in Clinical Pharmacology of University of Camerino, Italy.
