History
Chief: Artavazd B. Sahakyan, Ph.D.
The service of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and microsurgery in RA was founded in 1982. Later in 1996 the chair with the same name was created through the efforts of Associate Professor A. B. Sahakyan and his colleges.
Postgraduate training
Postgraduate training at the department is represented by a 4-year lasting clinical residency and a 3-year lasting postgraduate course.
Equipment:
- LySonix 3000 (PulseSelect) ultrasonic liposuction equipment performs fat breakdown and removal using ultrasound waves. The procedure is atraumatic and usually performed on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia.
- Stationary microscope (Karl Zeiss). The magnification x10. The microscope is used mainly for detailed reconstruction of small vessels and nerves.
- Electron-optical image intensifier. The devise is usedfor mobile X-ray imaging.
Clinical orientation
The Center for Plastic, Reconstructive Surgery and Microsurgery is a center that provides high-quality services 24 hours a day.
- Reconstructive microsurgery to the face and limbs
- Reconstructive operations after radical oncosurgery
- Face and body aesthetic surgery
- Intimate and urogenital zone surgery
- Facial and body contouring (gel and botulotoxin injections)
- Autotransplantation of the hair grafts.
Scientific research
At the chair were performed the multiple clinical and experimental studies concerning the regeneration of the peripheral nerves and the transplantation of the microsurgical flaps.
The results of the aesthetic and reconstructive operations are thoroughly evaluated.
The numerous experiments concerning the pathophysiology of ischemic skin flaps were made as well.
Through the efforts of the chair chief Sahakyan A.B. in 1998 the “Association of Plastic Reconstructive Surgeons and Microsurgeons of Armenia” was founded.
