Founded in 1977

Department of Prosthodontics was headed by assoc. prof. E.Gevorgyan (1977-1986), assoc. prof. E. Kilikyan (1986-1988), assoc. prof. E Gevorgyan (1988-1989), prof. V.Kirakosyan (1990-2006), assoc. prof V.Bakalyan (2006-2010), assoc. prof. M. Petrosyan (2010-2019).

In 1998 unique clinic of  complex maxilo-facial prosthodontics in the region was founded by efforts of department’s staff and Armenian Health Society of Washington. The clinic is located in Central Military Hospital where principles of maxilla-facial prosthodontics are studied. In 2006 N3 Universitary Dental policlinic was founded, adjacent to the department, which has modern equipment.

In 2020 by efforts of department’s stuff was founded the association of Prosthodontists.

Teaching at the department is conducted in the form of lectures and practical classes.

The practical classes are carried out on phantom equipment’s, dental technical laboratories.

Postgraduate education in Clinical Residency and PhD lasts 3 years.

During the clinical residency, residents examine the patients, carry out treatment planning and treatment with orthopedic structures. Presentations of clinical situations are conducted.

Research project of the department is as follows: “ Modern treatment techniques for fully and partially edentulousness with fixed and removable constructions, potential mistakes and complications, and their prevention. Musculo–articular dysfunction of maxillofacial system (pathology, etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention)”.

Guest professors of the department are Professor Sarkis Nalbandian, founder-director of the International College of Dentists, member of the Australasian Academy of Orthopedics, member of the Australasian Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, member of the Orthopedic Department of Specialist Stream, and Artavazd Kharazyan, head of the Maxillofacial Service of the Evdokimov Dental University of the Russian Federation (who has long headed the complex maxillofacial prosthetics department in the central military hospital for years).The department has close cooperation with foreign universities, in particular, the University of Porto in Portugal, the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain (USC UNIVERSIDADE DE SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA), the National Medical University of Kazakhstan named after Asfendiyarov in Almaty.

The clinic includes 4 clinical rooms, a sterilization room, a registrar’s room, a dental laboratory, and a staff rooms. Prosthodontics services include: manufacturing of fixed (artificial crowns, bridges) and removable (complete and partial removable prostheses) prostheses, prosthetics on implants.The department organizes courses on the topics of “Specifics of fixed prosthetics in Prosthodontics” and “Current issues of Prosthodontics” for the training of Prosthodontists.
